Optical metallography
The main method for the study of the metallic alloy structure is the observation of sample, carefully smoothed, polished and attacked, with the metallographic optical microscope with magnification till 1000X.
The optical microscope allows to see the constituent of an alloy after simple polishing or an attack, that it can be of electrolytic or chemical type.
With this technique it is possible to observe morphologies, grain boundaries, fracture surfaces, cleavage planes. The magnified image can be focused into human eye ora visualized in a photographic plate or in a camera
