Daniele Baldissin was born in Asti in 1978. He attends the Faculty of MFN (Mathematical Physical and Natural Sciences) of the Universita' di Torino and he graduates in Materials Science with first class honours.
He takes a doctor's degree in Materials Science and Technology with a thesis on "Modelling and experiments of solidification of stainless steels". During these years he studies and develops solidification models applied to multicomponent alloys like AISI 304-type austenitic stainless steels and HSS (High Strength Steels) with high nitrogen and high manganese content.
He presents his research work to seminars and meetings (2nd intern. Conf. on New Developments in Metallurgical Process Technology, Riva del Garda, Italy, 19-21 september 2004 - 1st International Conference Super High Strength Steels, Rome, Italy, 2-4 november 2005) organized by CSM (Centro Sviluppo Meteriali) of Rome and by AIM (Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia).
Most of his work concerns with problems encountered in experiments and modelling during the solidification process and the development of models regarding the prediction of microstructures.
He develops a multicomponent model in Matlab using thermodynamic and kinetic softwares like Thermo-Calc and Dictra. During his PhD he used softwares like IDS (InterDendritic Solidification) and CDG (Constrained Dendritic Growth) in order to simulate microsegregation and dendritic growth phenomena.
At present his research work is focused on the study of PDEs (Partial Differential Equations) to handle thermofluidodnamic problems by means of the finite element method. The software used is Comsol Multiphysics that allows to deal with diffusion and heat transfer problems involved in several multiphysical aspects typical of some solidification processes (Casting, Welding, etc.).
He is author of different publications. He received the prize Aldo Daccò 2006.
